2023 Fuel Pump Defect Recall: Is Your Honda or Acura Affected?

December 22, 2023 by Chuck Panzarella

Legally reviewed by: Chuck Panzarella, JD

Over 2.5 million Honda and Acura vehicles are being recalled due to a fuel pump defect that can increase the risk of engine failure or stalling while driving. This giant recall includes various vehicles from 2017-2020 Acura and Honda vehicles.

The issue lies with the fuel pump impeller not being molded properly, which can, over time, cause the low-density impeller to deform and interfere with the fuel pump body, leaving the fuel pump inoperative. If the fuel pump module becomes inoperative, the engine may not start or stall while driving, which increases the risk of a crash.

How To Tell If Your Honda or Acura Is Affected By The Fuel Pump Defect

There are several ways to tell if your Honda or Acura is affected by the fuel pump defect:

  • Your Vehicle – Your vehicle may warn you of the defect by turning on the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) light and by showing intermittent loss of power, or difficulty starting or stalling of the vehicle.
  • NHTSA Site – You can look up your vehicle on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) site to see if it is included in the recall. You will need to know your VIN or the Year/Make/Model of your vehicle.
  • Honda Site – You can also visit Honda’s website and look up your vehicle there. Make sure to have your VIN handy.
