If you’ve recently purchased or leased a Ford vehicle that is having frequent mechanical problems the manufacturer is struggling to repair, you may have a “lemon” on your hands.

Don’t suffer with a defective vehicle – you have legal rights and potential remedies under state lemon laws and the Federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.

This post from the consumer advocacy experts at Consumer Action Law Group will help you understand your options.

What Qualifies as a Lemon Vehicle?

For a vehicle to legally qualify as a “lemon”, it generally must meet these criteria:

  • Purchased new or leased (some states cover used vehicles)
  • Within warranty period
  • Has attempted repair for the same defect 4+ times or has spent 30+ total days in the shop
  • Defects still exist and impact safety, value, or usability

What Qualifies As A Lemon Vehicle?

According to vehicle history reports and consumer complaints, some of the most common lemon issues reported in Ford models include:

  1. Grinding noise from the engine
  2. Engine failure
  3. Transmission shuddering on acceleration
  4. A lag in acceleration
  5. Vehicle being out of service for an extended period while under warranty

These issues can substantially impair the vehicle’s safety, use, or value, making it eligible for lemon law claims. If you have experienced any of these issues with your Ford vehicle, it is essential to consult with a lemon law attorney to determine if you have a valid claim and to guide you through the legal process.

Getting Your Ford Fixed or Replaced

If you believe you have a lemon Ford, don’t suffer with an unusable vehicle. Here is an overview of your options:

  • Final Repair Attempt: You can give the manufacturer one last chance to fix it.
  • Lemon Law Arbitration: Initiate your state or Federal lemon law rights to demand a refund or replacement vehicle. Survey has found that about 39% of consumers were satisfied with the arbitration process post-decision.
  • Ford Buyback Program: Ask to submit your case to Ford’s customer satisfaction program for possible repurchase relief.

An experienced lemon law attorney can fully explain the nuances in state laws and your vehicle’s repair history to build the most robust case for maximum recovery or replacement.
