Acura Lemon Law

May 10, 2023 by Chuck Panzarella

Acura is a luxury car brand that belongs to Honda America Motor Co., Inc. It was launched in the US in 1986 with the slogan “Acura. Precision Crafted Automobiles.” Acura offers high-quality and stylish vehicles, such as the new Acura NSX that was featured in Super Bowl 50 and can reach 205 mph. However, some Acura models may have serious defects that affect their performance, safety, or value. These defective cars are called “lemons” and are covered by state and/or federal lemon laws. Acura owners who have lemons can claim lemon law relief if Acura cannot fix their cars after a reasonable number of attempts.

Is My Acura A Lemon?

If you have an Acura vehicle that has been repeatedly repaired for the same problem, you may have a lemon. A Lemon is a vehicle that does not meet the quality and performance standards of its warranty. The Lemon Law is a federal and state law that protects consumers from buying defective vehicles. It allows you to seek a refund, a replacement, or a cash settlement from Acura if they cannot fix your lemon in a reasonable number of attempts. You can also file a lemon law claim even if your warranty has expired, as long as the problem occurred while the warranty was still valid.

Known Acura Lemon Law Issues

If you own or lease an Acura vehicle that has repeated problems, you may be eligible for a lemon law claim. A lemon law claim can help you get a refund, a replacement, or a cash settlement from the manufacturer. Acura lemon law claims are covered by both state and federal laws, and they apply to new and used vehicles alike. Some of the common Acura models that have lemon law issues are the Acura CL, Acura TL, Acura ILX, Acura TLX, Acura RLX, Acura RDX, and Acura MDX. These vehicles may have defects such as:

  • Drive shaft breaking; may cause sudden loss of drive power
  • Faulty seat belts that won’t latch (dangerous during a crash)
  • Steering wheel locking while driving
  • Takata airbags that can release shrapnel during deployment
  • Transmission jerking between gears
