Important Safety Alert for Dodge Hornet and Alfa Romeo Tonale Owners

March 13, 2024 by Chuck Panzarella

Legally reviewed by: Chuck Panzarella, JD

In a significant move prioritizing consumer safety, Chrysler (FCA US LLC), now part of Stellantis, has issued a recall for certain 2023-2024 Dodge Hornet and Alfa Romeo Tonale vehicles.

This recall affects an estimated 36,093 vehicles due to a crucial non-compliance issue with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.

Chrysler Recalls Vehicles Over Incorrect Weight Capacity Label

Chrysler Recalls Vehicles Over Incorrect Weight Capacity Label

The crux of the recall is an incorrect maximum vehicle capacity weight value displayed on the tire placard label.

This discrepancy means these vehicles do not meet the strict requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 110, titled “Tire Selection and Rims.”

The correct weight capacity is essential for vehicle safety, as it ensures the vehicle is not overloaded, a condition that significantly increases the risk of a crash.

What’s at Stake?

Overloading a vehicle beyond its capacity can lead to tire failure, reduced handling, and, ultimately, a higher chance of accidents. Thus, ensuring that all vehicle owners have accurate information is paramount to prevent these potentially dangerous situations.

The Fix is In

To address this issue, dealers will apply an overlay label to the existing tire placard with the correct vehicle capacity weight information, all at no charge to the vehicle owner. This straightforward yet effective solution ensures that all affected vehicles will bear the accurate information needed for safe operation.

Notification and Next Steps

Chrysler plans to start notifying owners directly by April 24, 2024. For owners of the impacted Dodge Hornet and Alfa Romeo Tonale vehicles, it’s crucial to take this notification seriously and act promptly. By ensuring your vehicle has the correct tire placard information, you’re taking a vital step towards maintaining your safety and that of your passengers on the road.

Vehicle owners can contact FCA US LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403 for more information or to schedule this free repair. Additionally, for further assistance or to report a safety concern, owners may reach out to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.

Stay Informed, Stay Safe

This recall underscores the importance of adhering to safety standards and the proactive steps manufacturers and regulatory bodies take to ensure the well-being of the driving public. As a vehicle owner, staying informed about recalls and adhering to manufacturers’ guidance is not just about compliance—it’s about ensuring the safety and reliability of your driving experience.

For Dodge Hornet and Alfa Romeo Tonale owners, this recall is a critical reminder to verify that their vehicles are equipped to carry them safely to their destinations. Let’s prioritize safety by acting promptly on this recall notice.
