Certain Ram vehicle drivers may be experiencing an issue where their turn signals and high beams are not working as intended. To address this issue, Chrysler has recalled over 140,000 of their Ram vehicles including the 2023 Ram 1500, 2023-2024 Ram 2500, 2023-2024 Ram 3500, 2023-2024 Ram 4500, and 2023-2024 Ram 5500.

When the driver turns on the signal, it may cause the high beams to activate. Inversely, when the high beam is activated, it may cause the turn signals to activate. This may confuse other drivers and lower their visibility when driving, increasing the risk of an accident. Qualified dealers are offering to inspect and, if necessary, replace the steering column control module (“SCCM”) for free.

What is the Reason for the Ram Recall?

The recall issue was first brought up when the FCA US LLC (“FCA US”) Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance (“TSRC”) organization was notified of the potential issue with the SCCM of the specified Ram vehicles above on May 4, 2023.

The FCA US TSRC then conducted an analysis of the SCCM failure patterns from May 2023 through October 2023 to find out the reason for its malfunction reasons. Once they identified one of the builds that was showing the defect, Chrysler chose to issue a voluntary safety recall of the affected vehicles.

Which Vehicles Are Affected by the Turn Signal and High Beam Recall?

Any Ram vehicles with defective components regarding the SCCM issue are affected by the recall. The different Ram models affected by the defective components can experience an issue with the turn signals and high beams not working as intended.

The following Ram models are affected by the turn signal and high beam recall:

• 2023 Ram 1500
• 2023-2024 Ram 2500
• 2023-2024 Ram 3500
• 2023-2024 Ram 4500
• 2023-2024 Ram 5500

What Remedy Is Chrysler Offering to Fix the Issue?

To remedy the recall issue, Chrysler has issued a voluntary recall of all affected vehicles. The qualified dealerships will inspect the vehicles and, if necessary, replace the SCCM free of charge.

If you have already gotten the defect repaired prior to the recall notice, you can contact Chrysler to get reimbursed. Chrysler is asking owners to send the original receipt and/or other proof of payment for getting the defect repaired.

Filing a Lemon Law Claim in California

If your vehicle is still under warranty and is experiencing a warranty defect, you may be able to file a lemon law claim under California lemon law. A vehicle can qualify as a lemon if you took it in for repairs but the mechanic was unable to fix it. It can also qualify as a lemon if it sat in the shop for more than 30 days cumulative for repairs.
